La reine Once again, the candidate from Penhars won the title of "Reine de Cornouaille". In front of over 4,000 spectators, the thousand dancers gave the best of themselves last afternoon in the course of the traditional Abadenn Veur. The election of the Queen closed the show along with the Gradlon Trophy-giving ceremony (awarded to St Evarzec). The floor of the stage vibrated under the dancers' jumping feet. In the tiers, every means was used to protect oneself from the sun that had appeared at last: hats, caps but also newspapers and programmes. The spectators were delighted at this highly colourful range of costumes, reminiscing 150 years of evolution in the country fashion. Emotion time came with the election. Since 1923 the queen has been selected among a score of candidates from all the groups of Cornouaille. Sandrine Le Dréau, smiling and self-assured, from the Mederien Penhars, made a step forward to receive the crown from the mayor's hands. Caroline Solliec from Quimperlé and Noémie Balcou from Le Faou, the 2 Dauphines, also burst with joy when the results were announced. The Danse des Mil, happy final whirl , put an end to this crazy day which had started the festival for the first time. |
